Sydney Marathon Elites
The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS has today announced its elite athlete lineup for the event on Sunday, 15 September. This year’s event will feature established top ranked international marathon runners and rising stars, in the final push towards Abbott World Marathon Major status (AbbottWMM),
These top-tier athletes are set to deliver a fiercely competitive race, showcasing the global appeal and increasing prestige of the TCS Sydney Marathon on the international running stage.
With victories in major international marathons including the 2023 Tokyo Marathon and 2022 Paris Marathon, Chalu Deso (ETH), will headline the men’s marathon field, boasting a personal best time of 2:04:53.
Leul Gebresilase (ETH), has consistently performed well in major international marathons and will make his debut appearance at the 2024 TCS Sydney Marathon, with a personal best of 2:04:02. Gebresilase secured bronze at the 2023 World Athletics Championships and is part of a distinguished group of marathoners who have consistently dominated the global marathon scene.
The women’s field features an impressive lineup of athletes including Judith Jeptum Korir (KEN), with a personal best time of 2:18:20 and a history of top finishes in major marathons including claiming top spot and a new course record at the 2022 Paris Marathon. She will be joined by Gotytom Gebreslase (ETH) with a personal best time of 2:18:11, achieved during her victory at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, where she set the championship record.
“After passing the Abbott World Marathon Majors selection criteria in 2023, we must do so again in 2024 to secure our place as the 7th World Major in 2025. Tremendous work is being done to ensure we achieve this incredible milestone, and this year’s elite athlete lineup truly reflects the growing prestige of the TCS Sydney Marathon on the global stage.
