Dave Byrne – On the Trails

Training when you’re not as fit as you’ve been, nor as motivated, is hard! But while I don’t have aspirations of running PBs or winning championships, the competitive spirit is as alive as ever. So, I battle onwards in my journey towards completing my first ultramarathon (which by the way, I’m yet to have chosen where to do it.)

The week that was saw an increase in mileage and a dabble at a long run in the mountains. Feeling good I thought I could do with some more running and with the added excuse of visiting my niece in the Blue Mountains, I figured hitting a fire trail instead of Centennial Park would be a welcome change for the Sunday run….which by the way was tough! The run from Glenbrook to Woodford is a steady climb of about 26km, so it’s bloody hard regardless of how fast you do it.

Glenbrook to Woodford trail (The Oaks Trail) is rocky in sections but mostly not too bad underfoot.
