Chris Truscott – HALFway there!
A mixed couple of weeks on the training and racing front. I lined up for the annual SMH half around the streets of the CBD and Pyrmont. Quite a fast course if you were running the first 7km relay leg but alas from there things took an uphill turn, geographically speaking only. 12 hills of varying degrees and length from the 7km mark to the finish. I normally don’t mind the hills too much but I just lacked several more weeks strength to stave off the dreaded second half fade as I failed to offer much on these short and longer climbs.
I ran through the 10km mark in 33:35 which was around what I thought I’d do and I finished in 73:14 which (referring to my last post) was 16sec quicker than I’d predicted and a full 2 mins quicker than Canberra 5wks previous. My training and racing rival Tom Highnam was way too strong out there gapping me after 8km and opening it to 50secs by the finish.
I’m now looking to take another 2mins off at the Gold Coast for the half (ideally sub 71) as it is the course to do it on. After that, training for the Melbourne marathon and potentially the 100km later in the year takes precedence.
I’ve also been inspired to give TNF 100 another crack in 2015 after reading Andrew Tuckey’s recent blog about his very impressive race. I have unfinished business in that race and I’ll be coming off the Melbourne Ironman (bucket list goal only) so hopefully I’ll be a lot stronger then.
I’ve also had most of this second week off due to getting a cortisone injection into both toe joints to settle down some tendonitis and general niggling aches post surgery. I’m now ready to go again.
