Top 5 Sydney Parkruns
There’s no denying the incredible popularity of Parkrun. The phenomenal rise in the number of participants has been a major contributor to the explosion in running in general. Be it for fitness or to scratch that competitive itch, lacing up the joggers and hitting the pavement is currently considered a fitness trend. It’s now cool to run, with clubs and training squads popping up everywhere. A weekend staple for many has become the Saturday morning Parkrun. These 5 kilometer events are completely free, held at locations around the world and the venues are safe and well-marshalled. But perhaps the best thing about them is the community. These are family, and often pet-friendly events. It’s not about being first across the line or wearing the latest overpriced running kit. Parkrun is where you go to test yourself in relaxed surrounds and if you’re big on socialising and meeting like-minded people, there’s typically a coffee shop folks head to afterwards. For those lucky enough to live in Sydney, you’re spoilt for choice. So to help make the decision easier, here’s our favourites in the Harbour city.
1. Centennial Parkrun
This iconic park in Sydney’s East is a beautiful location with great facilities and plenty of parking within a 5 to 10 minute walk. The course is flat and predominantly grass or dirt, so it’s not the fastest, but it is really forgiving on the legs. It’s a popular event, so expect a bit of a crowd.

The event takes place at McKay Sports Ground, Centennial Park, Grand Drive, Sydney, NSW 2021. See Course page for more details.
2. Pirrama Parkrun
One of the prettiest locations in Sydney for a Parkrun, Pirrama Park is essentially the bottom of the suburb of Pyrmont, on the water’s edge. It’s a beautiful course with lots of twists and turns, on a mix of paths, grass and some wharves with wood underfoot. Parking is a little tricky but there’s plenty of toilets and cafes nearby to make up for it.

3. St Peters Parkrun
Located in the inner-west of the city, this is one of the most challenging courses you’ll come across. While it might be almost entirely on footpaths, there’s some decent hills on the route, including one major lump that leaves the legs and lungs burning. Parking is limited, and there’s a café and plenty of bathrooms.

4. Greenway Parkrun
This is a fast and flat course located alongside the iconic Bay Run loop. It’s a two-lap course on cycle paths and walkways. The parking can be tricky but there’s plenty of nearby streets just a short walk away. There’s a coffee car at the end and for those that want to add some mileage to their morning, a lap of the Bay is about 7km.

5. Rhodes Parkrun
The furthest from the CBD of the events on our list, we love this Parkrun because of the fast out and back course. Some of the fastest Park Run times have been run on this course, but don’t let that make you think it’s only one for the speedy. The community vibe is awesome and the scenery not too bad either. Parking is ok but you’re a little out of the way when it comes to finding a post-run coffee.
When is it?
Every Saturday at 8:00am.
Where is it?
The event takes place at Victoria Ave, West Concord, NSW 2138. See Course page for more details.
