Things I’ve Noticed While Running
I run a lot and have done so for quite a long time, and through all my years of pounding the pavements and hitting the trails I’ve noticed certain trends. Below are a few of the things that have become apparent to me in recent times.
- It’s ok for an overweight person to comment on you being skinny, but you can’t comment on them being fat.
- People dressed in fluro or driving utes have an increased likelihood of being a dickhead and yelling things at you.
- Trail runners obsess over taking photos of their training runs, while road runners obsess over their kilometre splits and average pace.
- Small dogs are tripping hazards and according to their owners it’s your fault if one runs under your feet.
- Overweight people, Asians, Uni students, men in suits and women with prams are visually impaired and have a tendency to either not see you or just look at you and do their best to not share the path. *Their blindness and self-entitlement increases exponentially with the number of them in a group.
- Trail and ultra runners need more gear and specialised apparel than a roadie/track athlete doing the same run.
- When in a group, runners seem to think pedestrian/road laws don’t apply to them and that runners have right of way.
- Regardless of temperature, some runners feel it necessary to train without a shirt…and despite their diminutive figures, they think they are massive.
- When traffic lights stop a run, joggers keep moving on the spot and runners just stand there looking angry.
- Taking selfies while out running so that you can share your awesomeness with others is almost as important as doing the training itself.
