Ten Must Do Australian Races!
With the racing calendar getting busier and busier it’s always tough to work out your plan for the year. So to help make the decision making process a little easier, here are what we think are the pick of the bunch.
Launceston 10
Held in June every year, the Launceston 10 Fun Run is arguably Australia’s fastest 10km road race. The route might not be scenic, but it sure is fast, that’s why the nation’s best are there every year.
The North Face 100
The most iconic of Australia’s ultra marathons, this is an amazing challenge in an incredibly scenic place. There are 50km and 100km options and the May weather is perfect for taking on this awesome challenge.
Perth City to Surf
Western Australia’s biggest road race, this event is growing in status year on year. With distances from 4km to the marathon, there’s something for everyone, so it’s great for the entire family.
The Cradle Mountain Run
This is a spectacular 82km run in Tasmania’s wilderness, traversing the legendary Overland Track in February each year. There are epic landscapes from start to finish, the hard part is getting an entry!
Sydney City 2 Surf
Not much needs to be said about this event. It’s the biggest fun run in the world and finishes at Bondi Beach where you can enjoy a swim. 14km on an August morning along with 80,000 others is an experience to be had.
The Melbourne Marathon
The cool October weather makes for ideal conditions for a fast marathon on an enjoyable and quick course. There’s a 5.7km, 10km and half marathon to support the longer option. Join the elites at the front or get amongst the masses and enjoy the supportive atmosphere.
The Buffalo Stampede
This is the first year for the event and while it hasn’t been run yet (It’s in April), we think it will quickly become one of the best and toughest ultras on the calendar. The SkyRunning phenomenon is here and this will be the main event in Australia. 75km and 41km options…both up mountains!
Adelaide City-Bay Fun Run
Held in September each year, this is South Australia’s biggest fun run. Held on a fast 12km course, this is the premier event in the state and is a great excuse to visit Adelaide.
Great Ocean Road Marathon
Probably the most scenic marathon in Australia, the stunning vistas will take your mind off the challenging course. Held in May, there’s a 45km, half marathon and 14km option, but we think the best choice is the full length!

Gold Coast Marathon/Half
They call it Australia’s favourite holiday marathon for a reason. The course is fast the fields are always strong and best of all, you can go to Wet’n’Wild afterwards! Get away from the cold July weather and take the family to the Gold Coast.
