Sydney Trail Series – Manly Race 2
The Sydney Trail Series is a sequence of events held throughout Metropolitan Sydney. Each season brings a different venue, such as Centennial Park in Spring, and Manly Dam is the current location. The weekend’s event was number two in the summer series and included a new 20km course as well as 10km and 7km events.
The cool but humid morning made for sticky racing conditions and the early start (6:30am) for the 20km race didn’t deter the competitors. Some 60 runners toed the line for the challenging and technical course. After 1:37:55 Christian Warren crossed the finish line to take the win head of Matty Abel in 1:39:14 and Wes Gibson (1:41:05)). The women’s race was won by Reegan Ellis (1:51:48) with Erin Murphy (1:56:48) and Tiffany McClymont (1:57:36) in second and third respectively.
7:30am saw the start of the 10km and 7km races which saw over 200 runners set sail into the Manly scrub. 41:34 later the victor Charlie Brooks emerged, followed by Jake Stollery (42:13) and Amadeua Gladbach (43:18) in the minor places. The women’s event was taken out by Emma Rilen in a fantastic time of 49:38. But hot on her heels were Heather Young (51:28) and Sophie Brown (52:27). The male 7km was won by Nick Walker and the female category taken out by Kate Hobs.
