Sydney Marathon 10KM Almost Sold-out

Registrations are close to capacity for the Sydney Marathon 10km, taking place alongside the record breaking Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS on Sunday, 15 September. With places filling rapidly, participants of all running abilities are encouraged to seize the opportunity to join the 10km field and be a part of this unforgettable, bucket list experience.

Following the explosion of popular run clubs across Australia, the Sydney Marathon 10km event affords seasoned runners, as well as entrants curious about marathon running, or those starting out their running journey, the perfect challenge.

With all eyes on Sydney, as it enters its final year of a multi-year evaluation process to become the next Abbott World Marathon Major (AbbottWMM), the Sydney Marathon 10km race is a fantastic milestone for beginners as it offers a tangible goal that’s challenging yet achievable with consistent training. The distance is also a chance for those aspiring to run a marathon, as the 10km race serves as a stepping stone by allowing runners to gauge their fitness levels, work on pacing strategies, and experience race day logistics without the full commitment of a marathon.

A community feel, but on a global stage, participants are encouraged to sign-up now to join thousands of people of all fitness levels, as they prepare to run, walk and wheel across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge traffic-free on their journey to the finish line of one of the world’s most picturesque courses, before finishing at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This year’s Sydney Marathon 10km will commence from a new start line at North Sydney Oval, echoing the historic start line of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Marathon, and is a nod to Sydney Marathon’s history as the only remaining legacy event of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Every Sydney Marathon 10km race entrant will also be eligible to receive a complementary Sydney Marathon branded finisher’s towel upon completion of the race.

“It’s an exciting time to be a runner, no matter where you are in your journey. We’re incredibly proud of the Sydney Marathon 10km race as this challenging, yet achievable distance allows us to attract more and more people into the incredible world of running,” said Wayne Larden, Race Director, Sydney Marathon. “Whilst the Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS sold out in record time, with a history making field of 24,000 registrations, we’re mindful that thousands across Australia missed out on securing a spot, and we encourage them to join us by registering for the Sydney Marathon 10km.”

To become a Major, the Sydney Marathon has been required to meet strict criteria two consecutive years, after meeting the criteria in 2023 if successful again this year, will join an esteemed group of races – Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon, TCS London Marathon, BMW-BERLIN Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon and TCS New York City Marathon – as a new member of the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2025.

Participants are also encouraged to make a difference when they run, with the Run for Free promotion, which enables runners to claim a rebate on their entry fee when they raise more than $500 for one of the event’s official charities. In addition to this,

The Sydney Marathon has raised more than $25M for Australian charities since its inception. This year, the event has partnered with Cure Cancer, Beyond Blue, Dementia Australia, Children’s Cancer Institute, Heart Foundation and Running for Premature Babies as headline charities, with more than 100 other official charities to be supported by people taking part in the event.

After the race, participants and spectators are invited to celebrate at the Sydney Marathon Post Race Recovery Village located in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Participants can enjoy food outlets, live entertainment, and brand activations all set against stunning harbour views.

The Sydney Marathon and its candidacy for the Abbott World Marathon Majors series is supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
