Stage Set for Run Larapinta!

The stage is set for the 11th edition of the Run Larapinta Stage Race, taking place from Friday 15 to Monday 18 August 2025 along the most breathtaking sections of the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory.

The 4-day, 4-stage trail running event reached its 200-participant cap within hours of entries opening late last year, and in turn cementing Run Larapinta’s reputation as a bucket-list event on the national trail running calendar.

Event Director Sam Maffett of Rapid Ascent expressed his pride in the event’s legacy;

“We are truly honoured to have built such an inspiring event over the years,” said Maffett. “But the real beauty of Run Larapinta is the enthusiasm from competitors, and we look forward to welcoming our class of 2025 to Australia’s Red Centre.”

The four-stage course is a captivating blend of natural beauty and physical challenge, and follows sections of the Larapinta Trail in the heart of the West MacDonnell Ranges, to the west of Alice Springs.

Two different course lengths make up the event: the Malbunka long course, with daily stages ranging from 20km to 41km, and the Namatjira short course, featuring stages of 13km to 27km.

Based out of Alice Springs, participants will be treated to awe-inspiring views; from the the tectonic lines of an outback landscape merging with a distant horizon; to the steep sided gorges brought to life with waterholes at their base.

Iconic landmarks along the courses include Brinkley Bluff, Standley Chasm, and Simpsons Gap; with the final Stage 4 on Monday finishing at the picturesque Ellery Creek Waterhole where participants will get to cool off and celebrate their achievements with a refreshing dip and impromptu ‘pool-float’ party.

With a challenging and beyond-scenic course, matched with a welcoming atmosphere and friendly camaraderie – Run Larapinta generates that little bit of magic, one unforgettable step at a time.

“Whilst the landscape is absolutely stunning – think spectacular gorges and views that will imprint for years to come – it’s the people that come from far and wide who make memories and life-long friendships through our event that make it truly special,” said Maffett.

The event is unmatched in the overwhelmingly positive sentiment towards the event by previous participants, and those lucky enough to have secured a place in the 2025 edition;

“I am so excited and nervous all at once! I’ve done plenty of distances but never a stage race; and I can’t wait to meet everyone and hit those beautiful trails.” – Jodie, 2025 entrant.

“Thank you for sharing such a wonderful adventure with me and making it one of the most amazing things I have had the privilege in doing,” – Cathy, 2024 participant.

The event would not be possible without the support from the NT Government and Alice Springs Town Council who have helped Rapid Ascent deliver the event at a national level and cement its’ phenomenal reputation.

“We are proud to support this event through the NT Major Events Company Funding Program as we continue delivering on our year of action, certainty and security. Events like Run Larapinta support our local communities and businesses, playing an important role in our commitment to rebuilding the economy and restoring our unique Territory lifestyle.” Said Lia Finocchiaro, Chief Minister, Acting and Minister for Major Events.
