Skyrunning at its Best!
This year Desafío Urbión Challenge celebrates their 10th anniversary and will host the world championship of Skyrunning, an event which will bring to the village of Covaleda the best mountain runners in the world.
The weekend of the 6th, 7th and 8th of September Covaleda will become the epicenter of the Skyrunning World Championships. The program offers three modalities in which amateur runners will be able to participate, enjoying the same routes as the professionals. However, their departure will be a few minutes after the start of the international race in the case of the Sky and the Ultra, while in the vertical kilometer the time trial format will be maintained with individual starts.

The first of the competitive races to be held will be the Vertical Kilometer Los Neveros. It will take place in Ágreda on Friday at 10:30am, at the skirts of the Moncayo, and the route will be 4.7 km with 1,050m+. Starting from the humble locality of Aldehuela de Ágreda and crowning Peña Negrilla Norte, at more than 2,000 meters of altitude.
The most demanding and longest race, UltraSkyrace Desafío Urbión, will be held on Saturday. It will be a unique edition and will offer a distance of 60 kilometers and 4,500m+. The start will take place in the town of Vinuesa and the finish line will be located in Covaleda. Along the route, participants will be able to enjoy iconic corners of Soria, such as the Laguna Verde, the Peña Negra peak, the Tres Cruces peak, the Laguna Negra or the Urbión peak, the top of the race at 2,228 meters of altitude.

The weekend’s program will close on Sunday with the Sky mode, the embryonic race of the Desafío Urbión Challenge with a circular route in Covaleda of 37 km and 2,600 meters of positive difference in altitude. During the route, participants will be able to discover up to seven glacial lakes as they traverse the wild and rugged mountain landscape.
The event will conclude with a celebration of the champions at the presentation, followed by a post-race party. The race organisers are looking forward to welcoming the world to Spain and showing them that not only is it a runners paradise, but the perfect place to experience the culture and landscapes of the country for any traveller.
