Run Around Australia for Mental Health
With the rise in popularity of running there has also been an increase in the number of people attempting amazing feats in the sport. One such superhuman is Brooke McIntosh, and she’s not only remarkable for putting one foot in front of the other, but also her incredible courage to overcome adversity.
At 13, she was battling eating disorders, anxiety and depression, using fitness as a way to punish herself, not empower herself. By 14, she was sexually assaulted. By 24, she was assaulted again while working FIFO. By 26, she survived a near-fatal truck accident that left her questioning everything. Now, at 29, she’s attempting to run 14,080 km around Australia in 180 days, and in doing so will become the fastest woman to ever complete the journey – All to raise $1 million for mental health charity The Blue Tree Project.
Her fitness journey started with validation seeking fitness competitions. Now, she runs for resilience, mental strength and a cause bigger than herself. Brooke has already proven she’s capable of the extraordinary. In 2023, she ran 1,600 km from the Pilbara to Perth in 28 days, raising $75,000 for mental health. You can watch the video here. Now, she’s scaling it to an unthinkable level. To put it into context, Brooke will be running 80km a day, every day, for 6 months!
The journey started a couple of weeks ago and so far she’s raised $42,000. You can track her journey, donate and learn more about Brooke’s story here; https://just-one-more.raiselysite.com
