Review: ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25
If a soft, cushy ride is what you’re after, then these just might be the kicks for you!
To describe the Gel-Nimbus in three words is easy: maximalist, neutral and cushioned. That’s the foundation of the latest generation of the Nimbus range. They’ve been made for high mileage running and those after a shoe that reduces impact while not being overly aggressive in how they bounce back. They have a gentle rocker that does assist in efficient foot strike, but not the sometimes-excessive roll through you get from the carbon-plated models of similar shoes in the market.
The standard version is a narrow fit with a tight shoebox, so it’s a good idea to try them on before purchasing as you may want to opt for half a size bigger or the wide option. That said, I personally prefer the snuggest fit possible as it feels more stable and means there’s no movement inside that can lead to hot spots and blisters. This narrower fit helps keep the weight down, as does the minimalist, flat tongue, that serves its purpose without adding extra mass.
Despite the large stack height, these are a stable shoe, largely thanks to the width of the sole and the use of the brand new FF Blast+ Eco midsole foam. The midsole itself gives you a supremely comfortable ride that even after weeks of wear and tear, maintains its integrity. Overall, I’d say that they’ve noticeably improved the stability and durability of the Nimbus 25 over its predecessor, and you can be confident of getting plenty of mileage out of them.
There’s a colour to suit everyone, but the pick for me is the white. Also of note is that they’ve been made with a20% recycled upper. as part of ASICS’ commitment to reducing waste and being more environmentally sustainable. An example of their work in this space is an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as well as the recent World Earth Day Challenge that resulted in 25,000 trees being planted by One Tree Planted. So, while getting yourself an uber-comfy pair of shoes, you’ll also be helping the planet.
