Four in a Row for Vic!

Victoria Mitchell has continued her Edgell Bathurst Jog winning streak in emphatic style by breaking her own course record by over a minute in clocking 25.51 to make it four in a row. The run which bettered her own 2012 mark of 27.02 was good enough to take second outright behind up and coming 5km runner Jordan Gumsan.
Mitchell who competed in the 3000m Steeplechase at last months IAAF World Championships in Beijing showed her future potential on the road. “This year’s victory is a stand out as I’ve never felt so strong and fast on the course and it showed in my time. I also knew from previous years some of the other competitor’s, knowing I was clear of them and 2nd overall made me push on. I don’t wear a watch so when I saw it in the 25’s coming up the last hill I was stoked.”
With the winter road racing season winding down Mitchell will now turn her attention to the Blackmores Bridge Run on Sunday 20th of September where she hopes to defend the title that she won in 2014: “I’m looking forward to going back and defending the title that I won last year and if this run is anything to go by then I think that a course record could be on the cards”.
On the men’s side, Jordan Gumsan showed the field a clean pair of heels on his was to a new course record of 23.29. Gumsan who boasts a personal best’s of 8:30.97 for 3km and 14:48.03 for 5km showed he’s on a big improvement curve following some disappointing early season results including the NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships where he narrowly missed qualifying for the NSW team to compete at National Cross County. Gumsan will now turn his attention to the NSW 3,000m Championships where a good run could see him break into the 8.20’s for the first time.
