The Whitsunday Running Club has now launched its second running festival, the Cruise Whitsundays Airlie Beach Running Festival, to be held on 20July 2014 with online registrations now flowing in.
Whitsundays Running Club President, Wendy Downes said early registration have been flowing in via the club’s website.
“We saw a record number of participants at last year’s inaugural Running Festival and early registration allows all competitors and their families to plan for this event and their visit to the Whitsundays,” Ms Downes said.
“Early bird registrations are being offered at a reduced rate up until 31 May, so get in quick” Ms Downes said.
Whitsundays Marketing and Development Chief Executive Officer Danial Rochford said he is thrilled to see the successful event propel into its second year.
“WMDL has been working with the Event Managers to take the event to the next level, as part of WMDL’s Events Innovation Strategy for the Whitsundays region,” Mr Rochford said.
“The 2013 event was a huge success and has attracted many competitors, spectators, their families and friends from across the region, interstate and from all over Australia,” Mr Rochford said.
“I encourage all participants to book their flights, accommodation and activities now to avoid disappointment and am looking forward to a great event in 2014,” Mr Rochford concluded.
Multi-award winning local Travel Agent Airliebeach.com has also partnered with Whitsunday Running Club to offer event holiday packages and is making it easy for competitors to book an extended stay and to enjoy the Whitsundays.
Following the huge success of the 2013 event, local tour and ferry operator Cruise Whitsundays has shown confidence in the event providing major sponsorship and, together with other local business sponsors, will be working together with Whitsunday Running Club to achieve an even better outcome for the region.
Cruise Whitsundays Managing Director Chris Jacobs said the event had clearly shown its potential to bring tourists to the area.
“The 2013 event was a huge success and Cruise Whitsundays was very keen to support the event to help it grow further in 2014 for the benefit of our local tourism industry,” Mr Jacobs said.
“Cruise Whitsundays is a proud sponsor and I am happy that we are able to showcase the new Cruise Whitsundays terminal at the Port of Airlie as part of the event course,” Mr Jacobs concluded.
The event includes the signature event Half Marathon 21.1km, the Port of Airlie10km and the Balance Podiatry 5km with a scenic course taking in the beauty of Airlie Beach and surrounds. A three person relay team category has been incorporated into the Half Marathon, plus a 5km Corporate Team Challenge, fancy dress optional.
The Half Marathon is Race 3 of 5 in the Athletics North Qld Half Marathon, with Race 1 in Ayr and Race 2 in Mackay, Race 4 in Townsville and Race 5 in Cairns. This will cement relationships between clubs but will encourage more interclub participation up and down the coast.
The 2014 event will proudly support a local charitable organization, Eco Barge Clean Seas Inc, which is a not-for-profit environmental organisation that was established in the Whitsunday Region to protect the precious marine life and aquatic environment by removing existing marine debris and reducing the amount of debris that enters waterways.
